About Francisca "Paquita" Vicente

Before coming to Rochester in 1994, Francisca “Paquita” Vicente was active in the struggle against Franco, first as a university student and then in the Workers Commissions (Comisiones Obreras), where she served as the union’s Secretary of Information and later as head of Women´s Issues for the Madrid regional section. From 1987 to 1991 she was coordinator of the Spanish section of the European Women´s Lobby, promoting protective legislation for women workers in the parliament of the European Union.

Los Lunes al Sol (Mondays in the Sun) by Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa tells us of the lives of mostly middle-aged men that lost their jobs when the shipyard, the primary source of employment in their city, closed its doors in 1984.
